45,000 Acres
In 2005, Barge 152 struck a collapsed pipeline spilling two million gallons of heavy crude oil between Texas and Louisiana in the Gulf of Mexico. It smothered the ocean floor where deep water corals are found and ultimately affected 45,000 acres of ocean. Thirteen years later nothing has been done to repair or protect these important open ocean ecosystems. Instead the current administration believes it is safe to bring more of the same to an ocean near you.
